In Chelsea, at the beginning of every Spring the surrounding residents in the vicinity of the Thomas Moore Park at the corner of 22nd Street and 10 the Avenue gather on either a Saturday or Sunday to plant fresh flowers and young trees in the park. They will be doing it this Saturday, May 19th.

Some of the most beautiful trees I have ever seen are in Midwood in Brooklyn. Not in a park, they are the trees that line the sidewalks. But these trees are quite different than the skinny-minis that line the streets of Manhatten. The trees are old, tremendous and full of character. I love the way they rip up the concrete covering their roots, a fight between man and nature- and the trees always win. I like to think that these same trees have been there as the neighborhood changed through time. In a city of concrete and buildings, more appreciation should be paid to the trees.
