This story was so sad. I can’t believe that the mayor is willing to put these people out on NY’s harsh streets and not give them any kind of protection.

I think that these volunteers who risk their lives to protect and serve the community should be admired and commmended for their heroism. It is unfortunate that situations like these are only now forcing officials to take action to protect those who risk their lives.

I’m really happy to hear that the police department has allocated money to purchase bullet proof vests for auxillary officers. After all, these officers are also risking their lives as regular officers.
